The pension threshold may fall to US$750 when the applicant personally owns property in Panama valued above US$100,000.
Applications are submitted in Panama through a Panamanian attorney. Review the official Pensionado requirements and confirm the current documentation before applying. Eligible pensioners and older residents may also receive statutory discounts on selected services, but these should be verified rather than treated as guaranteed monthly savings.
Healthcare Planning
Panama City has the country's broadest concentration of private hospitals and specialists. Boquete and Coronado have local clinics and medical services, but residents may travel for specialized treatment. Before choosing a home, map the hospital, pharmacy and specialists you would actually use.
Private insurers may apply age limits, waiting periods or exclusions for pre-existing conditions. Request written quotes based on your age and medical history. U.S. retirees should also remember that Original Medicare generally provides very limited coverage outside the United States. Canadian retirees and snowbirds should confirm the absence rules for their provincial coverage and include the CAD/USD exchange rate in their planning.
